Heathfield Community School / St.Augustines

About Heathfield Community School

Awareness of the global community is an integral part of the Heathfield School ethos and we are looking to develop this with the comenius project. We are proud to be mentoring St. Augustines School in the international dimension.

Heathfield is set in an attractive ‘green site’ on the edge of Taunton. Students come to the school from both the rural area and Taunton itself. We thus enjoy the dual benefits of a very pleasant learning environment and easy access to the town. The school is an 11-16 mixed community school with nearly 1200 students on roll.

The following video, which was created by 12 Year 8 students shows, from a students perspective, what our school is all about:

About St. Augustines School

The St Augustine of Canterbury School is an 11-16 comprehensive school situated in the north of Taunton. It is a joint Foundation Church (Anglican and Roman Catholic) school serving Taunton and surrounding towns and villages to provide a caring Christian education. There are approximately 250 students on roll making it a small community with a family atmosphere and strong links with the local community. We have 58% of our students with special needs – therefore specialist care and nurture play a very important part of the education given.

The school gained Specialist Science status in 2003. Restorative justice forms an integral part of the school where a trained facilitator will meet with students and/or staff to resolve any conflict or disagreements and help in the healing process.

Below is a short film created by students of the school, about day to day life in the school.

Students in Year 10 also created a film about what it is like to be a teenager in Taunton. Watch the film and see how different / similar it is to your life in your country.....
